This image appeared (in black and white) in FEAST , a New Orleans free newspaper-sized comic and illustration collection. I rendered it in brush and pen and then painted it with inks. Detail:
I outlined in ink and painted entirely with food coloring. I'm working on a third which will complete the series.
I want to get back to comics soon, and really to finish the mutilation story series that I published, probably inappropriately, as Jellyroll #3. But these symmetrical body drawings keep coming, and I feel compelled to see where this goes before trying to move on.
I used styrofoam, a ballpoint pen and acrylic paint to made these prints. I forgot to reverse the sketches first, so I got a mirror image. A lot of detail also got lost in translation. I think the sketches (below) were more successful.
I think this crude printing technique worked out better with these insect images.
I did this sketch recently during "art church" at Alex Grey's studio/gallery, CoSM, in Wappingers Falls, NY. He and his wife, Alyson, do a lot of events related to art, mysticism and psychedelic culture.
